LISLE, Ill. - Marian University men's basketball (6-14, 5-10 NACC) closed out the season series with No. 18 Benedictine falling to the Eagles.
The Sabres jumped out to an early lead on Benedictine at 11-7 with four of the MU points coming from sophomore Ryan Biffert and five from fellow sophomore Tyrese Pinson. A Benedictine timeout, however, would shift the momentum of the game and allowed the Eagles to take a sizeable lead. Marian was able to end the half strong with a steal from junior Reggie Roemer sandwiched between a pair of dunks from junior Alex Manhardt. Despite the strong finish to the half, the Sabre defense continued to have a rough time slowing down the potent offense of Benedictine in the second half. Freshman Kelvin Jones finished the game strong for the Sabres scoring the final eight Marian points. Despite the loss, the Sabres outrebounded Benedictine 39-36 for the game and held a 14-11 margin in second chance points. Pinson and Manhardt each had a team-high 12 points, while freshman Danny Duchaj came off the bench to chip in 10 points. Marian returns home to host Concordia Chicago for alumni day Saturday, Feb. 4 with tip scheduled for 4:15 p.m. from Sadoff. Comments are closed.
