MEQUON, Wis. – With six seconds remaining junior Josh Creed hit a pair of free throws to give Marian a 72-71 lead over Concordia Wisconsin. However, Trevor Krizenesky hit a jumper as time expired at the end of the second half to lift the Falcons past the Sabres 73-72 at the R. John Buuck Field House.
The contest was competitive from the opening tip. There were a total of 14 lead changes, nine ties and the Sabres' largest lead was an eight-point advantage at 13:19 in the first half. The Falcons quickly erased the Sabres first-half lead and the two teams traded blows the rest of the night. Senior Alex Stecker hit a jump shot with 10 seconds remaining in the first stanza and the game was knotted at 33-33 at the break. The Falcons largest lead was a 50-44 advantage at 13:52 in the second half. However, seniorCarvell Oliver and sophomore Alex Manhardt scored on the next two possessions to put the Sabres back in the midst of things. Manhardt was giving CUW trouble throughout the contest. The West Bend, Wis. product scored 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds to narrowly miss the double-double. Stecker logged a game-high 38 minutes and scored 16 points. CUW (12-9, 10-6 NACC) forced MU into 19 turnovers, which the Falcons turned into 27 points. Conversely, MU forced 10 turnovers, which was turned into 11 points. Krizenesky scored 24 points to lead CUW. MU (9-11, 6-9 NACC) returns to the hardwood Saturday at Concordia Chicago. Comments are closed.
