MILWAUKEE - Marian University men's basketball (0-6, 0-2 NACC) fell to Wisconsin Lutheran by a 66-65 final in another close road contest.
Freshman Will Polczynski would score 8 of the Sabres first 12 points as Marian took an early 12-8 lead. Down 21-16, the Sabres would go on a 17-0 run that gave Marian a 33-25 lead going into halftime. The Marian defense was especially strong in the opening half holding Wisconsin Lutheran to 9-31 (.290) shooting and forcing 13 Warrior turnovers. Polczynski led the way with a game-high 13 points in the first half. In the second half, the Warriors would chip away at the Sabre lead cutting the MU advantage to three forcing a Marian timeout midway through the second half. Out of the timeout, the Sabre defense would come alive once again propelling the Sabres to an 8-2 run that gave MU a seven point lead with under 12 minutes left in regulation. Both teams would trade baskets for the next couple of minutes with the lead growing no bigger than four after the Warriors tied the game at 46. The tight game went down to the wire as the pair of teams found themselves knotted at 65-65. The Warriors would sink one of two free throws with under 10 seconds left and a last-second Sabre shot would be off the mark leading to the 66-65 final. MU outscored WLC 36-28 in the paint and 23-13 in points off turnovers, but the Warriors would outrebound Marian 45-38. Polczynski led the way for the Sabres with a team-high 19 points and grabbed four rebounds. Junior Alex Manhardt and sophomore Tyrese Pinson each narrowly missed out on double-doubles as Manhardt would score 13 points with nine rebounds and Pinson added 12 points and nine rebounds.
