The 2017-18 season will be Mark Boyle's 30th at the helm of the Marian men's basketball program. He has coached more games and has more victories to his credit (378) than any other Marian basketball coach in the history of the program. In addition, he is the longest tenured college basketball coach in the state of Wisconsin. Aside from his coaching duties, Boyle teaches classes at Marian and monitors the academic progress of all the department's student-athletes.
The 2013-14 season resulted in the second-most wins in program history as Marian went 22-7 en route to their first-ever Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference regular season and tournament championships. The Madison native was recognized for the team's success as he hauled in Coach of the Year honors for the fifth time in his career, first such honor in the NACC.
The team was led by five seniors, three of which eclipsed 1,000 career points in the same season as Cody Veleke (7th), Jeff Harris (9th) and Sam Koslowski (16th) each accomplished the feat and finished their careers ranked in the top-16 on the all-time scoring list. Marian finished the year 13-1 at home en route to a 17-3 league record and a narrow defeat to top-ranked UW-Stevens Point on their home floor in the first round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament by a score of 66-64.
Boyle's teams have claimed four Lake Michigan Conference Tournament titles (2001, 1991, 1990, & 1989) and in 2001 they advanced to the NCAA Division III National Tournament for the first time in school history. He also earned four Lake Michigan Conference Coach-of-the-Year honors. In addition, Boyle has four regular season Lake Michigan Conference titles to his credit, winning them in the 1999-2000, 1998-99, 1990-91, and the 1989-90 campaigns.
Boyle holds bachelor's (1978) and master's (1981) degrees in Special Education from UW-Eau Claire. The Madison, Wisconsin native has a wide variety of coaching experience that has included stops at Eau Claire Regis High School, Lawrence University, and UW-Green Bay. At UW-Green Bay, under then-head coach Dick Bennett, his responsibilities included recruiting, academic monitoring, and scouting.
