FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Marian men's basketball team went 5-of-5 from the free throw line in the final 22 second of overtime to edge MSOE 100-96 Tuesday evening in a thrilling Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference contest at Sadoff Gymnasium.
With 42 seconds remaining in overtime, Alex Manhardt found space in the lane and broke a 93-93 tie. On the Sabres next possession Carvell Oliver was fouled and he hit both of his free throws to extend the Sabres' lead to 97-93. MSOE countered with a 3-pointer and cut the deficit to within one at 97-96. On the ensuing possession Reggie Roemer drained his free throws and Oliver added an insurance free throw with four seconds remaining to secure the win. Manhardt, a West Bend, Wis. native, came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor. He also grabbed a game-high eight boards. Behind Manhardt, the Sabres used an effective and balanced offensive attack. Oliver scored 16 points and was 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Roemer and Alex Stecker each scored 15 points. Roemer also handed out nine assists and grabbed three rebounds. Connor Morovits chipped in 14 points and was a deadly 4-of-6 from behind the 3-point line. Both teams found success shooting the rock. MSOE shot 58 percent (37-of-63), while MU connected on 55 percent (38-of-69) of its shots from the field. The Sabres won the battle in front of the basket and scored 44 points in the paint and grabbed 30 rebounds. MU played a total of 12 players and the Sabres' bench scored 38 points. Collin Seubert scored a game-high 30 points to lead MSOE (7-6, 4-4 NACC). MU (6-8, 3-6 NACC) returns to the court Thursday at Edgewood. Comments are closed.
