Marian University in Fond du Lac picked up a local recruit with an impressive resume recently when Valders senior Drew Binversie informed Sabres’ coach Mark Boyle he would attend the Northern Athletics Conference school and play basketball. Binversie (6-0) is a rock-solid guard who led Valders in scoring at 16.2 points per game and was named the Most Valuable Player in the highly competitive Olympian Conference. Binversie earned first-team all-Olympian honors in each of the past two seasons. A four-year varsity performer at Valders for coach Ron Nesper, Binversie scored a career-high 35 points in a 67-62 victory over Kiel on December 27. He led Valders to a 15-3 mark in the Olympian and a 19-5 record in all games. Binversie joins Winneconne senior Brad Koth and Oostburg senior Alex Stecker in the incoming recruiting class at Marian, which finished 10-16 last season without a senior on its roster.
