MEQUON, Wis. - Marian Universtiy men's basketball (0-4, 0-1 NACC) fell in a close contest to open NACC play to Concordia Wisconsin by a final score of 80-78.
The Sabre defense came to play early as they forced four turnovers off of four steals. Marian would use this advantage as they claimed a 12 point lead with just under eight minutes to play in the first half. Tha Falcons were able to narrow the gap, however, cutting the deficit down to five at 28-23 forcing a Sabre timeout. Marian benefited from the break and were able to hold off the charge into halftime with a 36-30 lead. The Sabres would shoot well in the opening half going 15-33 (.455) from the field led by sophomore Evan Hansen who netted 11 points. The Falcons chipped away at the Sabre lead to open the second half putting the score at 42-38 with 16 minutes left in regulation. Marian continued to battle but Concordia Wisconsin would eventually take their first lead since the first half at the 8-minute mark. The game then turned into a back-and-forth affair with the score ultimately leading to a 78-78 tie with only 18 seconds left to play. The Falcons would beat the clock and convert on a last-second layup to clinch the 80-78 victory. The Sabres finished the game shooting 29-58 (.500) from the field including 5-8 (.625) from the three-point line. Junior Alex Manhardt led the way for Marian with 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Sophomores Tyrese Pinson and Ryan Biffert each put together a nice night chipping in 16 and 14 points, respectively. Marian continues their road trip traveling to UW-Eau Claire Saturday, Nov. 26 for a 3 p.m. tip-off. Comments are closed.
