FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University men's basketball (6-7, 5-3 NACC) continued their strong play of late defeating Dominican 77-65 at home in NACC action.
The Stars hung around with the Sabres for most of the game but the Sabres were able to pull away late as they won their fourth straight game. Marian shot 29-53 (.547) in the opening half but Dominican shot just as well going 23-51 (.451) from the field including 11-23 (.478) from beyond the arc as the Sabres held a 39-36 advantage into halftime. Marian saw their lead cut to one to open the second half but the Sabres used an 11-2 run building their lead to double-digits at 53-43 and 13:31 left in the game. Dominican wouldn't go away quietly, however, as the Stars responded with an 11-0 spurt that gave them a 54-53 advantage with 9:18 left in action. A three-pointer from junior Tyrese Pinson broke up the Star spurt and was the beginning of a 17-2 run that put Marian ahead 70-56 with only 3:01 left to play. Five different Sabres scored during the run that proved to be enough for Marian to cruise to the NACC win. Senior Alex Manhardt once again had another big game with his fifth double-double of the season. Manhardt went 7-10 (.700) from the field as he scored a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds. Pinson finished in double-figures chipping in 15 points. The Sabres controlled play down low for most of the game as MU out rebounded the Stars 35-22 and had 18 second chance points. Marian remains at home hosting Wisconsin Lutheran at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 from Sadoff Gym. Comments are closed.
