WAUKESHA, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Junior guard Jeff Harris poured in 25 points and the Marian University men's basketball team claimed third place at the Johnson Bank Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Carroll University by defeating Martin Luther, 81-71, today, Nov. 19. Marian shot 50 percent on 30-of-60 from the field, led by Harris, who went 8-for-18 and went 6-for-8 from the free throw line. Sophomore Cody Veleke added 14 points and five boards, while Charles Ruffing chipped in 11 points and five assists, connecting on three of Marian's 12 three's in the game. The Sabres pick up their first win of the season, moving to 1-2, while Martin Luther falls to 0-2 on the year. Marian was in control for the majority of the game, leading by as many as 19 points at the 6:29 mark of the second half. The Sabres led by seven points at halftime, 39-32, and answered the bell in the second half by going 15-for-27 (55.6 percent) from the field. Sam Koslowski made it four Sabres to score in double figures as he added 10 points. Jake Coenen knocked down three from long range to finish with nine points and Mark Keller added a team-high eight rebounds in the winning effort. Martin Luther's Galen Holzhueter was scored a team-high 24 points while Justin Danell added the game's lone double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Sabres return home for a 7 p.m. tip against visiting Lawrence University Wednesday, Nov. 23, inside Sadoff Gymnasium. Comments are closed.
