MILWAUKEE - Marian University men's basketball (8-10, 7-6 NACC) led late in the second half but the Raiders rallied to defeat the Sabres 72-71.
MSOE led most of the first half and built their lead to as large as 11 points following a 15-5 run before the Sabres ended the half strong. Marian closed out the opening half with an 11-3 run that was capped off by a jumper from junior Tyrese Pinson putting the Sabre deficit at 35-32. Marian then kept themselves in striking distance and used a 10-4 run midway through the second half to take a 48-44 lead with 12:22 remaining off of a three-pointer from freshman Noah Knudsen. After the Radiers knotted the game at 48-48, Marian went on another extended run using an 11-4 run to build their lead to 59-52 with 8:34, their largest lead of the game. A Raider timeout, however, put an abrupt end to the run and the Raiders kept the deficit manageable. The 5-minute mark then proved to be the turning point as MSOE was able to close out the game with a 12-4 stretch taking the lead with 26 ticks left. The Sabres would have a pair of opportunities at the basket in teh final seconds but nothing would fall as the Raiders held on for the come from behind win. The Raiders outshot the Sabres going 22-43 (.512) from the field including 9-17 (.529) from beyond the arc. The Sabres shot 24057 (.421) from the field and had one of their best games at the charity stripe going 19-22 (.864). Senior Alex Manhardt recorded his seventh double-double of the year in the loss with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Pinson also chipped in 11 points. Freshman Logan Hamilton finished with a team-high 16 points off the bench going a perfect 7-7 from the bench. Marian returns home to take on Aurora at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 from Sadoff Gym.
