FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University men's basketball (7-8, 6-4 NACC) saw a five-game win streak snapped falling to Benedictine by a 77-63 final.
The Sabres trailed by as much as 18 to open the second half but whenever Marian chipped away at the Eagle lead, Benedictine was able to prevent extended Sabre runs. The Marian bench had a big game scoring 38 points led by freshman Tristan Van Ess who recorded a team-high 18 points and fellow freshman Tavaris McCullough who chipped in 14 points. Marian was held to only 10-36 (.278) shooting in the opening half including 2-12 (.167) from beyond the arc. Marian would heat up in the second stanza as they managed to out score the Eagles 41-38 off of 17-35 (.486) shooting. The Sabres managed to cut the lead down to nine after a layup from junior Tyrese Pinson capped off a quick 7-0 run with 5:09 left to play, but consistent offense from the Eagles prevented any thoughts of a Marian rally. Benedictine closed out the game shooting 27-54 (.500) from the field and 19-23 (.826) from the charity stripe. Senior Alex Manhardt also reached double-digit scoring with 12 points along with a team-high seven rebounds, four on the offensive end. Manhardt also assisted on four baskets with a steal and a block. Marian looks for the sweep of Concordia Chicago on the road Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. Comments are closed.
