FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Senior Alex Stecker delivered big when it mattered the most.
With three seconds remaining in overtime Stecker hit a jumper at the top of the key to propel Marian past Lakeland 72-70 in a critical Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference tilt at a raucous Sadoff Gymnasium. For Stecker the basket was a sense of redemption. "To win the game for my team was all that I could ask for," Stecker said. "I felt that I didn't play at my best today, but my teammates and coaches had faith in me and that's all that mattered. Feels great to get the conference win as we continue to work towards our goal." However, the overtime period almost didn't happen. With eight seconds remaining in the second half and trailing 61-58 Josh Creed was fouled on a 3-pointer. The junior went to the line and hit his free throws to send the game into overtime. "Josh Creed played great," MU head coach Mark Boyle said following the game. "He really put the team on his back in a critical situation and delivered." Creed finished the night with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Sophomore Alex Manhardt scored 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. He also helped out with six rebounds. Fellow sophomore Reggie Roemer chipped in 10 points. The Sabres dominated in the paint with 49 rebounds and 32 points. Tanner Hackl scored a game-high 25 points to lead LC (10-7, 6-6 NACC). MU (9-8, 6-6 NACC) returns to the hardwood Saturday versus Aurora. Comments are closed.
