FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – A 20-2 run out of the gates paced the 16th-ranked UW-Whitewater Warhawks to the 74-51 road victory over the Marian University men's basketball team to close out the 2011 portion of the schedule inside Sadoff Gymnasium this evening, Dec. 30. Whitewater senior Chris Davis led all scorers with 31 points and 11 rebounds in just 24 minutes of action. He dropped 22 points and nine boards in the first half alone in leading the Warhawks to a commanding 45-19 advantage at the break. UWW's Cody Odegaard and Luke Knoble reached double-figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Mike Keller led the Sabres with 14 points. The Warhawks improve to 11-1 on the season, while the Sabres fall to 2-8. Whitewater displayed a very efficient shooting display, registering a 49.1 percent clip from the floor for the game, including going 18-for-30 (60 percent) in the first half. Meanwhile, the Sabres were held to just 34.5 percent (19-for-55) from the floor for the game, including just 25 percent in the first half. Mark Keller fell one point shy of reaching double-figures for Marian, adding a team-high six rebounds to go along with it. Junior Jeff Harris added six points and five rebounds as well. The Sabres will now spend a few days preparing for a busy three-game week ahead. Marian will stay home to take on Finlandia in a doubleheader Tuesday, Jan. 3, before welcoming in Northland in a doubleheader Wednesday, Jan. 4. The Sabres will then jump back into NAC play with a road doubleheader at Aurora Jan. 7. Tuesday tip-off is slated for 7 p.m., following the women's start time of 5 p.m. |
