FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - Marian opened up their 2013-14 season on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Sadoff, hosting Martin Luther from the UMAC. Senior Sam Koslowski led the offense for the Sabres, finishing with 19 points in the 79-70 victory.
Marian couldn't have asked for a better start to their season, as they opened up with a 7-0 run. Senior Cody Veleke contributed four of the first seven points, and would finish with 14 on the day. Good team possession and elusive quickness would be the story of the first half, as Marian was able to enter the locker room at halftime with the 37-21 lead. Halfway through the second half, the Sabres had strengthened their lead to 26, which would be their largest lead of the night. Off the bench, senior Jeff Harris was effective, sinking six baskets good for 14 points. The Crusaders would cut the Marian lead to seven with 12 seconds remaining, but couldn't catch the Sabres in the end, falling 79-70. Four different Sabres finished in double-digit points, with Koslowski leading the way with 19. Junior Drew Binverse added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Veleke and Harris added 14 each. The Sabres are back in action next Wednesday as they play a non-conference game down the road against Ripon. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. Comments are closed.
