FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University men's basketball (4-7, 3-3 NACC) scored 90 points for the second time this season defeating Concordia Chicago 90-80 at home.
Marian shot the lights out in the win going 33-66 (.500) from the field, their second-highest field goal percentage in a game this season. The Sabres also had their second best night from beyond the arc where they went 10-28 (.357). The Sabres led from start to finish jumping out to an early 17-8 lead after a three-pointer from junior Will Olewinski to start the game. Marian then used an 18-2 later in the half to build their lead out to 38-15 with 6:57 remaining in the first half following a layup from senior Alex Manhardt. Marian closed out the opening half shooting 19-36 (.528) including 7-17 (.412) from three-point land as they led CUC 51-35 heading to the locker rooms. The Sabres continued to hold their significant advantage to open the second half with back-to-back buckets from junior Evan Hansen building the Marian lead out to a game-high 26 points with 12:34 left in action. From there, the Cougars were able to chip away at the Sabre lead but Marian was able to hold off a late rally for the NACC win. Marian held a big advantage in the paint where they outscored the Cougars 40-24. Five Sabres scored double-digit points led by Manhardt who had a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Olewinski and Hansen each had 12 points, while junior Kelvin Jones scored 11 and freshman Tavaris McCullough came off the bench for 11 points. Marian hits the road for a NACC matchup at Rockford Wednesday, Jan. 3 with tip scheduled for 5 p.m. Comments are closed.
