FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University men's basketball team fell to visiting University of Dubuque, 87-64, in a non-conference tilt this evening, Dec. 15, inside Sadoff Gymnasium. Dubuque trailed 4-0 before using a 10-0 run and taking a lead it would not relinquish. Four Spartans reached double figures, led by Mitch Michaelis' 13 points. Marian placed two in double figures with Sam Koslowski leading the way with 12 points, followed by Cody Veleke's 10 points and team-leading seven rebounds. Dubuque improved to 9-1 on the year with the win, while Marian dropped to 3-6 with the loss. The Sabres held an early 4-0 lead before the Spartans went on a 10-0 run and never looked back. Dubuque built as many as a 20-point lead before Marian closed the gap. The S used a hot-shooting first half, going 15-for-30 (50 percent) from the field with four made three's and a 10-for-11 effort at the charity stripe. The Spartan bench proved to be key as they outscored the hosts 22-9 en route to a 44-28 halftime lead. The second half was a similar result as Dubuque shot 57.1 percent (12-for-21), while going 5-of-7 from three and sinking 14 free throws. Marian managed just 34.5 percent (10-for-29) with 12 looks from long distance, making only four. The Spartans outscored the Sabres, 32-20, in the paint and featured a deep bench contingent that totaled 36 points, compared to 27 for Marian. The Sabres will take on Martin Luther College this Tuesday, Dec. 18, in New Ulm, Minn. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. Comments are closed.
