FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University men's basketball team eclipsed 75 points for the fifth time in its last six games, but it wasn't enough to upend visiting Lakeland College, which posted a 97-77 Northern Athletics Conference victory inside Sadoff Gymnasium this evening, Jan. 11. The Muskies shot 54.8 percent (17-for-31) in the first half and finished the game with a 51.7 percent (31-for-60) clip. After the Sabres cut the deficit to 16-13 with 11:25 left in the first half, the Muskies embarked on a 15-4 run that led to a 54-30 halftime advantage. Lakeland led wire to wire and by as many as 34 points before it was said and done. Lakeland improves to 10-3 overall, 5-1 in the NAC, while Marian falls to 3-11 (0-6 NAC). Sam Koslowski led four Sabres in double-figures, totaling a season-high 19 points on 6-of-9 from the field, while converting five of his last six baskets in the contest. Cody Veleke added 16 points and four rebounds, while James Bartelt scored 14 off the bench and Mike Keller added 10. For the Muskies, Jake Schwarz came into the game averaging a league-high 27 points per game. He finished with just 16 in 18 minutes before the game was in hand. Justin Ward led Lakeland with 17 points on 6-of-10 from the field, while Josh Regal added 14 points and four assists and Stan McKenzie chipped in 12 points and a team-high eight boards off the bench. Both teams received 44 points off their benches as 30 players saw action between both teams. The Sabres will spend the next couple days preparing for Benedictine as both squads will face off in the second half of a doubleheader at Sadoff Gymnasium.
