Oostburg senior Alex Stecker (left) and Winneconne senior Brad Koth (right) have decided to continue their education and play basketball for Marian University in Fond du Lac. Stecker played four years of varsity basketball for coach Kevin Bruggink at Oostburg. During his time with the Flying Dutchmen, they won 88 of 103 games, including two Central Lakeshore Conference championships. A 5-8 point guard who makes intelligent decisions and defends with a purpose, Stecker averaged 13.1 ppg as a senior and earned unanimous first-team all-league honors. He also earned first-team all-conference recognition as a junior and second-team laurels as a sophomore. Stecker follows in the footsteps of several former Oostburg standouts to play college basketball for coach Mark Boyle at Marian, including current team members Mike and Mark Keller. Koth is a 6-1 wing guard who was voted first-team all-league in the Eastern Valley Conference by the conference’s nine coaches. He led Winneconne in scoring at 17.3 ppg and played three years of varsity basketball for the Wolves. Koth scored a career-high 26 points in a loss to Freedom late in the season and helped a very young Winneconne squad to a 9-14 record under first-year coach Nate Ryf. Marian finished 10-16 overall and 7-9 in the Northern Athletics Conference last season. |
