ROCKFORD, Ill. - Marian University men's basketball (5-7, 4-3 NACC) shot a season-high 45.5-percent from beyond the arc as the Sabres won their third straight game 91-83 over Rockford.
Six different Sabres made a bucket from beyond the three-point line in the win led by junior Will Olewinski who shot 3-6 (.500) from three-point land as he finished with 11 points. The Sabre offense started especially fast shooting 20-33 (.606) from the field in the opening half including 7-11 (.636) from beyond the arc. After starting the game with a 22-22 stalemate and 9:58 remaining in the opening half, Marian scored the game's next 13 points as MU took the first big lead of the game at 35-22 with 6:39 left in the half. The Sabres followed that up with a quick 10-2 run near the end of the half to build their lead out to 54-36 heading into the break. The Marian offense continued to roll to open the second half as a layup from senior Alex Manhardt with 7:10 left to play gave Marian a game-high 27 point lead. The Regents closed out the game strong as they were able to cut into the Marian lead but the Sabres were able to cruise to the 91-83 road win. The Marian depth proved to be a big factor in the victory as the MU bench came up with 37 points coming from seven different Sabres. Junior Tyrese Pinson led the way for the Sabres as he scored a season-high 17 points, the second time in the past three games he scored double-figures, to go with seven rebounds, six assists and four steals. Fellow junior Evan Hansen would chip in 15 points. Olewinski and Manhardt also had seven rebounds as Marian out rebounded the Regents by a slim 41-40 margin.
