RIPON, Wis. – Reggie Roemer scored 12 of his team-high 19 points in the second half but the Marian men's basketball team couldn't overcome a slow start in a 90-74 setback versus Ripon at Wyman Gymnasium.
In the opening five minutes of the first half the Sabres had plenty of good looks at the basket, but couldn't get the ball to fall. Alex Stecker hit a trey ball at 14:12 for MU's first points of the game and the Sabres were left looking at a 12-3 deficit. Marian weathered the slow start and a Josh Creed 3-pointer at 5:53 brought the Sabres to within nine at 35-24. From there the Red Hawks closed the half with a 15-12 run and went into the break with a 50-36 lead. Creed scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds. The 6-foot-6 junior recorded two blocks and a steal. Alex Manhardt earned playing time for the first time this season and didn't diaspoint. The West Bend native dropped 14 points and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor. Carvell Oliver helped out with 13 points. Ty Sabin scored a game-high 24 points to pace Ripon (6-4). Marian (4-6) returns to conference action January 6 at Lakeland. Comments are closed.
