WAVERLY, IA – Marian University men's basketball (0-2, 0-0 NACC) were unable to complete a late comeback in the first game of the Buzz Levick Tournament against Wartburg College falling by 90-83 final.
The Knights jumped out on the Sabres early in the first half scoring 15 of the game's first 17 points forcing an early Sabre timeout. Marian used the break to bounce back and narrow the deficit to 10 with under four minutes left in the half, but Wartburg would take a 48-36 lead into halftime. Marian would cut away at the Knight lead in the second half eventually bringing the deficit down to single digits at 57-50 with 14:33 left in regulation. It was a back-and-forth affair throughout the rest of the second half with Marian down late with two minutes left to play 85-78. The Knight lead would be too great for the Sabres as the final score eventually settled at 90-83. Wartburg finished the game shooting 30-57 (.526) and 5-15 (.333) from behind the arc. The Sabres did well on the glass, however, outrebounding the Knights 40-33. Junior Reggie Roemer and sophomore Ryan Biffert led the way for the Sabres in scoring with 18 and 16 points, respectively, while freshman Charlie Witek also hit double-digits with 12 points. Marian will be back in action for the consolation game of the Buzz Levick Tournament where the Sabres will play Iowa Wesleyan Saturday, Nov. 19 with a 2 p.m. tip-off. Comments are closed.
