WAVERLY, Iowa - Marian University men's basketball (0-3, 0-0 NACC) was defeated by Iowa Wesleyan in the consolation game of the Buzz Levick Tournament 111-101 in double overtime.
The Tigers jumped early out early on the Sabres with a 9-2 run to open the game forcing a Sabre timeout. Marian would cut away the Tiger lead two with under 9 minutes left in the first half, but Iowa Wesleyan would take the lead to halftime 41-36. Marian opened the second half with four steals to take the lead 43-41. The Sabres controlled most of the second half pushing their lead as large as 11. The Tigers would not go away quietly, however, as they climbed back into the game knotting the score up at 85 with 23 seconds left in regulation. Iowa Wesleyan would get a good look at the rim for the game-winner but it would fall short and the game would head to overtime. In overtime, the Sabres and Tigers would trade baskets throughout the extra period with the lead not going further than five for either team. Again the Tigers would get another quality chance to claim the victory, but the shot would fall short forcing double overtime. The Sabres were only able to score seven points to the Tigers 17 in the second overtime as IW went 13-13 from the charity stripe to set the final score at 111-101. Junior Alex Manhardt led the Sabres in scoring with a season-high 28 points and eight rebounds. Junior Reggie Roemer and sophomore Tyrese Pinson helped out on the offensive side of the ball with 25 and 14 points, respectively. Marian will be on the road for their first conference game of the season against Concordia Wisconsin Tuesday, Nov. 22 with an 7 p.m. tip-off. Comments are closed.
